MacGyver (2016 CBS TV Series)
Angus "Mac" MacGyver is an operative of a secret U.S. government organization where he uses his extraordinary talent for problem solving and his extensive knowledge of science to save lives. "With skills that are only limited by his creativity, Mac saves the day using paperclips instead of pistols, birthday candles instead of bombs, and gum instead of guns."
MacGyver (1985-1992 TV Series)
MacGyver is an American action-adventure television series created by Lee David Zlotoff. Henry Winkler and John Rich were the executive producers. The show ran for seven seasons on ABC in the United States and various other networks abroad from 1985 to 1992. The series was filmed in Los Angeles during seasons one, two, and seven, and in Vancouver during seasons three through six. The show's final episode aired on April 25, 1992 on ABC (the network aired a previously unseen episode for the first time on May 21, 1992, but it was originally intended to air before the series finale).
The show follows secret agent Angus MacGyver, played by Richard Dean Anderson, who works as a troubleshooter for the fictional Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles and as an agent for a fictional United States government agency, the Department of External Services (DXS). Educated as a scientist in Physics at Western Tech ("Hell Week"), MacGyver served, in the US Army, as a Bomb Team Technician/EOD during the Vietnam War ("Countdown"). Resourceful and possessed of an encyclopedic knowledge of the physical sciences, he solves complex problems by making things out of ordinary objects, along with his ever-present Swiss Army knife. He favors non-violent resolutions and prefers not to handle a gun.
The series was a moderate ratings success and gained a loyal following. It was popular in the United States and around the world. Two television movies, MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis and MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday, aired on ABC in 1994. A spin-off series, Young MacGyver, was planned in 2003, but only the pilot was made. Merchandise for MacGyver includes games and toys, print media and an original audio series.
A reboot series of the same name premiered on September 23, 2016 on CBS, which today owns the rights to the series through its acquisition of the original Paramount Television.

Episode #1: "The Rising" September 23, 2016
Angus "Mac" MacGyver, with help from Jack Dalton and Nikki Carpenter (Tracy Spiridakos), infiltrates a party to steal a biological weapon. However, as Mac and Jack meet up with Nikki, they find her held hostage by John Kendrick (Vinnie Jones). Mac gives up the bioweapon, but Kendrick shoots both him and Nikki. Three months later, Nikki is dead and Mac is on holiday when his boss, Patricia Thornton of the Department of External Services (DXS), arrives.
Thornton shows him video of a lab where the bioweapon was used and calls Mac and Jack back in to help. With information stuck on Nikki's hard drive, the two recruit hacker and convict Riley Davis, who tracks Kendrick to San Francisco. The group not only finds Kendrick, but also discovers that Nikki is alive and working with him for another group. After capturing them both, Mac finds out that Nikki has already sold the bioweapon to someone who plans on making it airborne via an IED. Mac finds the bio-weapon and extracts it from the bomb before it explodes.
A few days later, Mac is at home burning photos of Nikki when Jack, Riley, and Thornton come to meet him. Thornton tells the group that Nikki's betrayal has caused knowledge of the DXS to become compromised, so they have to shut down and relocate under a new name of their choosing. Mac chooses the name Phoenix, to which the rest of the group agrees. Elsewhere, Nikki is in handcuffs, being transported by car. After the car goes through an overpass, the driver and passenger discover that Nikki has disappeared, leaving the cuffs behind with a hairpin.
